  • There are a variety of banks to choose from, each providing their own unique banking service, so ask around, do your own research, and choose wisely before opening an account.

Documents to bring

  • Passport (Submit ARC # Later)
  • 재직증명서 “Jae–Jik–Jeung–Myung–Suh”–Proof of employment, your school's administration office can provide this.

Setting Up an Account

  • If you go by yourself, you can say, “통장만들어주세요”, “Tong–Jang Man–Doo–Ruh–Joo–Say–Yo”which means, ‘please make me an account’.
    • Normal banking hours are Mon–Fri, 9am–4pm. As these times coincide with your work schedule, you will need to do most of your banking during school hours (get permission from a co-teacher/principal), and or find a bank that operates on a weekend.

Sending Money Home

  • In order to transfer funds to an overseas account, you must know the SWIFT code of your home bank. There will of course be a fee involved with transferring money.
  • You may also want to ask your Korean bank if they have a foreigner remittance program. If they do, you can simply set up an account, and every time you place funds into this account, it will automatically transfer to your home bank.
