Eligibility

  • Applicants must meet the qualifications set forth by the Ministry of Justice:
    • The Korean government currently recognizes only 7 nations of being "English-speaking". Therefore, applicants must be a citizen from one of the following countries:
      • Australia
      • Canada
      • England
      • Ireland
      • New Zealand
      • South Africa
      • United States
  • Applicants from South Africa (SA): As SA has 11 official languages, applicants must provide proof that they have been taught in English in primary and secondary school. An official letter from the schools confirming this will be considered sufficient proof.
  • Ethnic Koreans who legally reside in a country whose primary language is English may also apply. However, they must provide proof of having had an English education starting from Junior High OR grade 7.
    • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in one of the 7 English-speaking countries acknowledged by the Ministry of Justice (see above).
    • Applicants must be healthy, both mentally and physically. Upon arrival in Korea, applicants must pass a health check from a Korean hospital chosen by the ministry of justice.
    • Applicants must have a strong grasp of the English language.
    • Applicants must be open–minded, flexible, and adaptable to be able to immerse themselves in the Korean culture.
  • If you are a male citizen of the Republic of Korea under the age of 35, you must have either completed mandatory military service or have received an official waiver.
