Korean Income Taxes are around 3–5% of your paycheck.
Tax Exemption
- Certain countries have agreed upon a treaty w/ the South Korean government known as the “Double Taxation Exemption Agreement”that allows citizens of certain countries, 2 years of exemption from paying taxes.
Eligibility

You must be a citizen of one of the following countries
- Australia
- England
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- United States of America
Unfortunately, citizens of Canada and Ireland are not eligible for tax exemption.
Guidelines

In order to claim tax exemption in Korea, you must provide documentation proving you are a permanent resident in an eligible country. This document is called the “Certificate of Residency” and can be acquired from the National Tax Authority in your country.
- Please bring your “Certificate of Residency” before coming to Korea. If you forgot to bring or even apply for the document, you can contact your home countries national tax authority (see below) and apply for one online. As soon as you provide this document to your school’s administration office, you should be tax exempt. Until that time, you will pay Korean taxes.
